Chuckwagon Cookoff, Sorghum Harvest, & Fall Scout Day

Olathe, Kansas 66061 - Introduction: The public is invited to judge the chuckwagon cooking and help out with Mr. Mahaffie's sorghum harvest!
You won't want to miss out on all the fun happening today on the farm!
During our Chuckwagon Cookoff you may visit the various chuckwagons at work and vote for your favorite dishes at noon. If you interested in entering your chuckwagon in the event, contact us at mahaffie@olatheks.org!
Help with the sorghum harvest! We always look forward to harvesting the sorghum and boiling it down to make molasses. Wear your work boots and jeans because you have the chance to get in the fields with the Mahaffie staff and volunteers during this event. Help cut stalks of sorghum, feed the stalks through a press to make sap, and haul the sap to the outdoor fire to be boiled into molasses. Maybe you can sweet-talk the cook into giving you a taste of the finished product. Yum!
Scouts are invited to participate in today's activities to earn their Mahaffie patch! Register ahead here.
While you're on the farm, take a tour of the historic home, see Mrs. Mahaffie's cookstove in action, meet the heritage breed farm animals, and learn a bit about blacksmithing, too.
We're open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $9 for adults, $7 for kids ages 5 to 11 and free for kids ages 4 & under. Olathe residents receive $2 off admission. Mahaffie members are free.
