  • Monday-Saturday: Open features include the museum exhibits in the Heritage Center and Agricultural Heritage Livestock Barn, the museum grounds. Admission: $3/adults, $2/children ages 5-11, 4 & under are free.
  • Saturdays: includes all features above and an opportunity to visit the Mahaffie house.

Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop & Farm invites visitors of all ages to discover a working 1860s farm with horses, chickens, goats, pigs, and sheep. You and your family can engage in some of the activities that were a part of daily life for the Mahaffie family and their neighbors. Mahaffie is open year round! 

Hours & Activities

Monday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Sundays

Begin your visit in the Heritage Center:

  • Park in the Heritage Center parking lot.
  • Pay admission.
  • Pick up your map of the days’ activities.
  • Visit exhibits and watch a video about the Mahaffie Farm.
  • Peruse the Mahaffie Market gift shop for your souvenirs.

Daily Activities

  • Explore exhibits in the Heritage Center, the Agricultural Heritage Livestock Barn, and explore the grounds.
  • Watch videos about the Mahaffie family and the Border/Civil War in the Heritage Center.
  • Enjoy and use the picnic shelter on site
  • The Mahaffie house is not open during non-living history days.
  • $3/adults, $2/children ages 5-11, children 4 & under are free.

1860s Living History Days

  • During living history visitors take a step back and time, getting the opportunity to
    • Tour the house
    • Meet a cook in the kitchen
    • Visit the blacksmith as they work
    • Take a stagecoach ride
    • View the exhibits and interpretive signs on the grounds.
    • Enjoy seasonal farming activities
  • All activities included with admission: $9/adults, $7/children ages 5-11, children 4 & under are free
  • Often including other activities on the site as well, such as 1860s yard games or crafts for the youngsters.

September to May, Monday through Friday

  • $3/adults, $2/children ages 5-11, children 4 & under are free.
  • Enjoy visiting exhibits in the Heritage Center, the Agricultural Heritage Livestock Barn, and explore the grounds.
  • Watch videos about the Mahaffie family and the Border/Civil War in the Heritage Center.
  • The Mahaffie house is not open during non-living history days

September and October, Saturdays

  • All living history activities included with admission: $9/adults, $7/children ages 5-11, children 4 & under are free
  • Olathe residents receive $2/off admission.
  • Enjoy features offered Monday through Friday as well as:
    • stagecoach rides
    • blacksmith and cookstove demonstrations
    • visiting the Mahaffie house
    • seasonal farming activities

November-March, Saturdays

  • All non-living history features listed above, plus an opportunity to visit the Mahaffie house.
  • Admission: $3/adults, $2/children ages 5-11, children 4 & under are free. 

April and May, Saturdays

  • All living history activities included with admission: $9/adults, $7/children ages 5-11, children 4 & under are free
  • Olathe residents receive $2/off admission.
  • Enjoy features offered Monday through Friday as well as:
    • stagecoach rides
    • blacksmith and cookstove demonstrations
    • visiting the Mahaffie house
    • seasonal farming activities

Memorial Day through Labor Day, Wednesday through Saturday

  • Enjoy 1860s living history activities: stagecoach rides, blacksmith and cookstove demonstrations, visiting the Mahaffie house, and seasonal farming activities.  
  • Stagecoach rides: 10:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m. 
  • Blacksmith demonstrations: 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m. & 3:30 p.m.
  • Enjoy visiting the exhibits in the Heritage Center and Agricultural Heritage Livestock barn. Watch videos about the Mahaffie family and the Border/Civil War and visit the Mahaffie Market gift shop. 
  • Activities are an open-house format with staff/volunteers in 1860s clothing at each activity. You are welcome to visit each activity at your own pace. A list of activities available when you pick up your map at the Heritage Center when you pay admission. 
  • All activities included with admission: $9/adults, $7/children ages 5-11, children 4 & under are free, Olathe residents receive $2/off admission.

Memorial Day through Labor Day, Monday and Tuesday

  • 1860s Living History activities, such as stagecoach rides are not available Mondays and Tuesdays.
