Ride into the Future

Nothing brings history to life for all visitors enjoying our living history program like a ride in a real stagecoach pulled by horses. Our stagecoaches are a signature element for Mahaffie.

Now twenty years old, our Concord-style stagecoach has conservatively traveled some 3,400 miles for school programs alone, or two round trips to Santa Fe! The total miles traveled is much greater. While in sound condition, the years and miles and heavy use have put wear and tear on the coach.

The Mahaffie Foundation has a unique opportunity to acquire a lightly used, high quality, and authentically detailed stagecoach (pictured above) from one of the premier builders in the country. Hansen Wheel and Wagon Works near Mitchell, South Dakota builds wagons and stagecoaches for museums and historic sites, the tourism and film industry and other agencies across the country.

With $65,000 already in hand, the Foundation has another $36, 365 to go as of October 23, 2023. Tax-deductible donations to help acquire the stagecoach can be made via PayPal, or by check made to the non-profit Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop & Farm Foundation, marked “stagecoach project” and mailed to Mahaffie Historic Site at 1200 Kansas City Rd, Olathe KS 66061.
