Students will experience life on an authentic and working farm from the 1860s and 1870s. They will discover the relationships of crops, animals and farm families that made agriculture the most important business of Kansas in the mid-1800s.

This program is designed to meet curriculum standards for Kansas and Missouri schools including economics, social studies and history standards.

Activity Packets - Students can enjoy this packet before or after their visit.

Science Activity Packets  - Students should enjoy this packet after their visit.

Activities

This program is typically split into four different educational activities with students rotating between the stations. Seasonal farming activities can include but are not limited to:

  • Participate in farm chores
    • Planting
    • Cultivating
    • Harvesting-"I liked stripping the sorghum after we picked it."-3rd Grade Student
  • Visit the animals
  • Visit the blacksmith
  • Enjoy a stagecoach ride
